Ahh, summer. There is something delightfully refreshing about ditching heavy creams and powders in exchange for airy, dewy alternatives.
For this look, I focused on preserving the appearance of radiance with lots of nourishing products to keep the skin hydrated. Between synchronized swim performances and acting, Diana‘s skin is frequently under stress.
Meet Diana, the half-mermaid beauty.
We began by waking up the skin with my fail-proof skin-prep staple, Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Essence Mist. I was fortunate to be introduced to this lucky number during my trip last December to New Jersey’s infamous Short Hills mall and have been addicted ever since. In between touch-ups it makes for a perfect refresher – the mist droplets aren’t so large that you come out of the bathroom looking like you just walked out of the shower. I am particularly sensitive to fragrances, and found the intensity of this fragrance to be just right – it lingers but isn’t so overpowering that you can taste it every time you inhale.
To lock in the moisture, I used Clarins ‘HydraQuench’ Cream Gel. After having tested this product on my own skin for the past year, I can say it is the only product (second to my face mist) that I have not veered from throughout all seasons. I love the cooling sensation of the gel formula after a tiring day, or first thing in the morning after cleansing. It just feels fresh and the smell is incredible. It also layers nicely underneath foundation and tinted moisturizers for those days you need a little extra hydration.
Note: this one doesn’t contain SPF, so I followed-up with a layer of Skinceutical’s Ultimate Nourishing Broad Spectrum Sunscreen since we were shooting outdoors that day.
I touched-up any blemishes with a few dabs of MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and mixed the remainder in with moisturizer to apply it to areas to neutralize the redness.
Cult products have their place in the market for a reason, C.O. Bigelow’s Rose Salve being no exception. Their rose salve has been my go-to for years. I’ll mix in a Q-tip sized portion to a lipstick to sheer it out but keep that glossy texture for a more natural look.
Glossier’s Soothing Face Mist is a lovely, affordable addition to any routine. A little heavier in moisture than the Chanel face mist, it goes well on bare skin when you feel your skin getting a little irritated or just in need of some TLC.
To give the eyes the look of being awake and fresh, I lined her waterline with a flesh-toned liner by Make Up For Ever, applied a touch of gorgeous rose gold creme shadow by Laura Mercier on her lids, and curled her lashes for extra volume. To polish off the look, I filled in Diana’s brows using Anastasia’s Brow Wiz brow pencil for added definition. Not too much, just enough.
Fun fact I learned while spending time with Diana: she performs as a synchronized swimmer with the group, the Aqualilies! Check out her appearance at Coachella during the Pandora Radio Indio Invasion pool party!
